The benefits of a morning routine

Starting the day well is the "most" important factor in determining the choices you make over the day. Which foods will you eat, what kind of mood will you be in, how will you sleep at night etc.

One common theme with healthy, happy people is that they have a morning routine. A routine is defined as: "a regular way of doing things in a particular order"

It's key to develop a morning routine that sets your day up for success. Include activities such things as stretching, meditation, breathing exercises, playing with the kids, walking the dog, drinking a glass of water etc.

Below is an example of a successful morning routine from personal trainer and nutrition expert, Christian:

  • "Immediately after waking I get some fresh air. Whether it’s rain, hail, snow or shine I’ll do this to help wake up by exposing my skin and eye receptors to UV rays. 
  • Then start my stretching routine. Note, it's important not to drink or consume anything until after the stretching is complete to ensure better nervous system results from the stretches. Stretching helps with blood flow and supports joints and is especially important if you are sitting at a desk all day.
  • Drink water, atleast 400ml, sometimes with lemon. Very important to hydrate.
  • Take 2 Apple Cider tablets to kickstart my metabolism and digestion for the day.
  • Eat a small breakfast that contains healthy fats, either from eggs and or avocado, followed by a cup of black coffee.
  • Mid morning around 10:30am I take 3 capsules of ReVive 
  • The rest of my day flows from there."

Now you don't have to follow Christian's routine to the tee, it's just an example that works for him and his lifestyle.

The most important thing in the morning is to avoid social media, emails and text messages. We recommend putting your phone on Airplane Mode overnight and then not checking your phone until after you have completed your morning routine. 

It's easy to wake up and be in defence mode the whole day, responding to other peoples demands, and in a state of stress, however this will leave you feeling unaccomplished and drained at the end of the day.

Having your own morning routine will allow you to be more productive, happier and make smarter decisions over the day, and... allow you to be more present for the ones that matter, your friends and family.
